A Creative Odyssey: Inktober 2023 Unveiled
If you’re not familiar with Inktober, it’s a drawing challenge that takes place every October on Instagram. While the official Inktober has seen its share of controversy, I won’t dive into those details here. I’m happy to note that it has evolved over the years, with many Instagram artists hosting their own versions of the challenge.
My favorite part of Inktober is compiling screenshots of various artists’ prompt lists and selecting a few from each to illustrate. Back in 2018, I decided to take on the monumental task of tackling all 31 days. It was my first time participating, and I found myself stressed out without a game plan for prep work. Most days, I’d wrack my brain for a concept, illustrate it, and post it on the same day.
Following that demanding year, I made a promise to myself not to put that much stress on my plate again. My motivation dwindled, especially as I was dealing with worsening health issues.
However, my love for the challenge never waned. I decided to participate only when I felt like it and had an idea in mind. One of my favorite aspects of Inktober now is all the prompt lists available for me to screenshot. I randomly select a word that resonates with me and bring it to life through my art.
Some illustrators meticulously plan their content a month ahead of time, which is so smart, but I very much still beat to my own drum when it comes to Inktober. Randomly picking from different prompt lists and giving myself a bit of breathing room between days.
Without further or do, here’s my illustrations for this year’s inktober and the prompt lists that I pulled from.
There’s still a few more days left in October, so be on the look out here on my blog and my instagram @mogigi_dsgns just in case I post another prompt entry!
Tell me, do you like to do inktober? If so, share your favorite prompt lists and illustrations you’ve seen down in the comments. I would love to see your work!
